The biggest village in the municipality of Övertorneå is Juoksengi. Juoksengi is very beautiful situated at the crossing of the Torne river and the Arctic circle.
Juoksengi is one of the oldest villages in the Torne Valley.

The name Juoksengi is arised from a persons name Juoksa, a lappish name. There is another theory about the name and it is related to the bow the Torne river makes at Juoksengi. The word bow is in lappish "Juoksa". But it´s most likely a persons name that created the village name.

Example of different spellings of the village name in the past: Jwxenge, Joxenge in the 15th century and Juåxange, Juoxengi in the 17th century.
